This Soviet Beast was produced in the thousands from the early 70's up until today. At that time all the West would have had to counter it was the Cobra which was used mostly to hunt down lightly armed Vietcong farmers.. the Apache didn't come out until the mid-late 80's and was still only produced in small numbers. You do the math... this Heli would have obliterated anything in the sky with rotors and an American pilot.

According to Russian sources, the Stinger missile did not change much in the battlefield. Only change was that the slow Mi-8 changed their flying style, but they were still very vulnerable while dropping troops.

The Hind they used in this show was the later Hind D and F variants. When the soviets actually made the Mi24 called the A model in 1969-1972, it was to replace the Mi8. The Hind D only saw combat in the 1980's. The Mi24 itself is a fast long ranged attack helicopter, even though it is sluggish it can still outrun a Huey and perform fast attack strafe roles (Hind F). The best part is the affordability and upkeep of only relying on only one helicopter, that is why the Russians still make it.

One of the best attack helo's ever built, and the best competitor against the AH--64 and AH-1 IMO. Not to mention it scared the pants off of whoever saw it. Saw some quote from Afghan guerrillas saying "We do not fear the Soviets, but we do fear their helicopters."

22 hinds were lost for combat reasons, most of them were due to mechanical failure.
