simple solar stirling water pump working principle and dimensions



This is an animation how it work inside the real water pump I show on the "solar stirling engine water pump" video. olle_welin@hotmail.com. The pointed VVVV shape at bottom of the displacer is important to reduce the force of water when displacer should lift of the water surface (the deep of the pointed VVVV shape should be 3cm or more.
The displacer in the real modell follow close the ideal carnot profile by nature. I have add alu plates on the cold side how increase the contact surface to the air a lot to increase the efficiant.

thing that was confusing me. I built a soupcan sized model over the weekend
and it worked great! Now on to the full sized version.

@owegobill 1. Self starting or not depends on several things: displacer
must float easy in middle stage with minimal friction, you need absoult no
air leakage (above water surface line), then the displacer act very
instable in middle stage when temperature differance is suficient. You need
to add a sufficient float. 2. the diameter of the displacer rod pick up a
force from the pressure differances between inside and outside the chamber,
this force drive the displacer up and down.

This looks very interesting, I'd like to build one to mix/aerate the water
in my spring fed pond which is warm at the surface but quite cold just a
few inches deep. With that in mind, I have a couple of quick questions: 1.
Is the pump self starting? In other words, if I left it in my pond
overnight would it start by itself when warmed by the sun the next day? 2.
I don't understand what "pops" the displacer piston out of the water to the
top of the air chamber. Thanks for any help, Bill
