I would have crapped myself in this situation, and to think, this was at
night time, no less!

I was working in V-2 Arresting Gear during this exciting time. I'm glad it
turned out the way it did. We Trained and trained on rigging the
barricade. Nice to see our training paid off. We had a second barricade
trap exactly like this one about 6 months later. That one turned out just
as well.

There is two A-6 barricade films around that occurred aboard Ranger, they
both look very similar.

McNally might have been an exchange pilot, since there were no Marine A-6s
assigned during that cruise. I even checked both squadrons' members photos
ad didn't see a Captain (USMC). navysite.de/cruisebooks/cv61-91/index.html

ministock7x, you are right. The circa 1987 date is off. The date was 9

'Single Bingo' is actually ' Get your hose in, Signal Bingo'. The ship is
telling the tanker (probably an A-6) to retract their refueling hose, as it
now not needed, and telling them to head for the divertion airfield. BINGO
is the navy term to divert. The last aircraft in the air, which is a tanker
now cannot land due to the foul deck. Hope this helps.

What's the meaning of "Single Bingo"?

Hey Bob, you been to the Salt Wells in Fallon anytime in the past 25 years?
I remember you there with Brigrat, Flewellen, Pink, & the rest of the
Flight Line gang back in December of 1986.

I thought that was a VA-145 bird, but after listening to the audio I
realize it was a Marine bird. I dont remember rigging the barracade for a
marine bird in 1987, Just our 145 plane.

Then you, me & Sgt Emery were all in 121 Flight LIne together on that Team

The Marine Intruder Pilot in this video was Randy "Atlas" McNally. He was a
great friend and roommate of mine during Primary Flight training in
Pensacola. Sadly he was killed in April of 1994 in an Intruder accident
while flying for the reserves. I will never forget him. Semper Fi Brother!

Bug was very highly thought of. He's certainly very very calm during this.
You can google him at tailhook and bug

did that plane ever fly again?

@Mackinstyle Get the hose in m.means he was the alert tanker overhead. Get
the hose in means to bring in the refueling hose and divert.

Автор jkaposi ( назад)
There is a tanker in the air ready to refuel the A-6. After the successful
barricade the tanker is told to stow their deployed hose and bingo to a
divert field. '411 Get your hose in and signal bingo'. 'Bingo' is the
standard navy talk for divert.

Автор Crem2057 ( назад)
That guy sounds nice talking him down in such an anxious circumstance. lol
I wish all guys were like that.

Автор Crem2057 ( назад)
@Mackinstyle i imagine the hose used to spray down fire retardant to
prevent fires from occurring in case of structural damage of the aircraft.

Автор Mackinstyle ( назад)
Anyone know what he meant about getting the hose in?

Holy shit

Автор LordsOfLanding ( назад)
@fcguy7 that's what I guessed given the LSO graded the pass as an OK

Автор fcguy7 ( назад)
@LordsOfLanding he yells "CUT CUT CUT" as an instruction to cut the engine
completely off ... not idle power but complete shutdown.

Автор Tom Tucker ( назад)
CV-61 as I notice from the PLAT display

Автор LordsOfLanding ( назад)
Now Paddles is screaming CUT! CUT! CUT! at the end there. Is he instructing
the pilot to cut his power to idle or is he saying that this is a cut pass?
He certainly praises the pilot afterward so I have to assume meant the

Nice approach. That net sure does make for a rough landing though. And the
saying holds true....Any landing you walk away from, is a good landing.
